
It’s hard to explain why small urban parks set in big cities are so special. No grand entrance. No ticket counter. A fence, trees and peace. Electra Park is one such park. Nestled in the middle of the busy and rapidly developing Al Zahiyah (or Tourist Club Area) this small urban park is Abu Dhabi’s favourite urban retreat. There’s no pretention. It says “welcome” and that’s all you need.
Electra Park is named after Abu Dhabi’s Electra Street. Abu Dhabi’s development involved more glass buildings and cars. In all that growth, It is also a symbol of Abu Dhabi‘s efforts to create more city green spaces in high-density locations, and the park has become and continues to be a small oasis for the Al Zahiyah residents.
The park is located in the Great Tourist Club Area of Abu Dhabi but at the moment the park itself is located in the Al Zahiyah district which is classed as one of the most popular and packed districts of Abu Dhabi. It is bordered by:
But, walk through the park gate and it’s a different world. The noise softens. The pace drops. The air, smelling of trees and plants, is just a tad cleaner. And that is the magic of urban planning, which the Park delivers.
The park is open every day from 6:00 AM until 10:00 PM, so you can have fun in the park. In the mornings it is cool and peaceful, perfect if you want to get in some early morning running or walking. In the afternoons, you can relax in the park with friends and family and it is always great to play.

It is not a mega-park. It was never meant to be. It is a community space, well designed and for that purpose, satisfactory.
The real charm of the Park is how it lends itself to so many different types of people doing so many different things, even simultaneously. Here’s what you might see on a visit:
There are lots of vibrant, suitable for kids, swings, climbing frames and slides to ensure children have a busy time. During the early evening there can be a large crowd in the park so get here early to avoid the crowds.
No gym? No problem. There are running tracks, a bike path and a badminton court, all basic but great for a workout. It’s a regular destination for many people.
The vast lawn and shaded groves are perfect for reading, eating and relaxing. As the sun sets, the park comes alive with a pleasant ambience.
Parents lay down towels, unpack lunch and stay for hours. Older women walk in pairs, couples and friends meet. It’s friendly, welcoming, and definitely homey.

Electra Park is a place that Abu Dhabi residents know well and love for another reason and possibly more importantly, for the daily blessing of serenity. In the center of a very active and busy part of the city, the park is a reminder that in the city we can be without doing and without moving. If you are an Abu Dhabi inhabitant, and have yet to discover the Gem that is Al Zahiyah, go and see for yourself. The park is waiting. It does not hurry, and you shouldn‘t either.

Of course. There is a playground and is very safe and accessible for small children.
Can you jog and work out there?
Yes, Electra Park has jogging paths and open lawn to expand and to make exercises, e.g. jogging, walking, jogging path, stretch yourself.

Street parking available but very busy in the evening. Bus and ride-sharing services available in abundance.
